Escultor Uiaca
Sculpting since the age of 8, making items for his father, a priest of an African origin religion, Uiaca works mainly with caja (mombnin) wood, which was prevalent in the region of Pernambuco where he grew up. The yellow mombin tree has a corky bark which it regularly sheds. This is what Uiaca has traditionally used to expand his art. In time, the artist moved to contemporary art, without his culture and influences taking second stage. Born in Recife and raised in Olina, a historic town in Pernambuco, Uiaca has lived in São Paulo for 13 years, as a sculptor, capoeira leader, husband, father a step-father and indo-african citizen.
